Looking for Portland Punk Parents that are thinking about taking their elementary school kids to Social Distortion in June. It's an all ages show and I would like to take my two older kids, 11 and 7, to the show. I think it would be fun to meet for dinner and then take a crew to the show. Hit me up if you want to meet up with us and all go together.
Cheers,
tom

Mon, May 22, 2006 - 9:04 PMIn 1982 I saw the Angelic Upstarts, Social Distortion, Bad Religion and the Blades with my mom in LA. Your post just reminded me of that. Have fun! -

No, that's not funny at all. :) I went to Samohi and a bunch of the punks were from Malibu...
Hey Sin34 played at my house in Santa Monica at a party in 1983. I lived on Marine street off Lincoln. My dad was out of town and being the good punk kid I was, I organized a huge party...Dont No and Sin34 played. Suicidal Tendancies was setting up then the cops came... :(
Crazy times.

Re: Portland Punk Parents
Wed, May 24, 2006 - 3:22 PMFor me too. I have vivid memories of waiting outside in line and then hanging out in the lobby area before the show. At that time my mom worked in Century City at Macy's or Bullocks with this super cool old-time punker from the Masque days named Heather. I had the biggest punk crush on her. She looked the spitting image of Elvira. So she, my mom and I went that night. Heather introduced my mom and I to Penelope Spheeris who was kind of taken aback to meet a mom and son at the gig. I think we ended up at the end of the evening at the Hollywood Bowling lane with Rick Wilder from Mau Maus. I still have the ticket stub from that gig.
Strange all this time passing. It seems like yesterday and yet so much has happened since then on so many fronts. -

Re: Portland Punk Parents
Mon, June 30, 2008 - 3:00 PMHa ha, just discovered this over here in sunny England and I was the bass player in the Upstarts from late '81 to about '84 and I remember this show really well. We had just played the Whisky a couple of nights before which was tiny and then we get to the Florentine Gardens, (wasn't it a roller disco or something?), and it was massive. I also remember the Stern brothers and the fact that my leather jacket got stolen backstage while we were playing.
I came back to LA about 3 years later as I wanted to live there and was gonna marry a girl I'd met on this tour to get my green card but she had turned into a junkie or something so I met up with some other friends, one of who was now going out with the singer from RATT, and hung around LA for a few months.
How is it all over there nowadays? Last time I was there, I seem to remember there were tons of glam rock bands around.
Nice to meet you all, by the way.
One final question, you said you were from Beverley Hills right? You weren't a skinhead who lived in Lana Turners old house were you?
